Amit Chakrabarti (born November 11, 1959) is the William and Joan Porter Chair in Physics at Kansas State University.〔Amit Chakrabarti's curriculum vitae:http://www.phys.ksu.edu/personal/amitc/Amit_Chakrabarti_wiki_CV_2013.pdf〕 Chakrabarti is a theoretical physicist with interests in soft matter and statistical physics. He has worked on diverse soft matter systems, including liquid mixtures, polymers, liquid crystals, aerosols, colloids, nanoparticles, and most recently, self-assembly of proteins.〔Amit Chakrabarti's Media Bio: http://www.k-state.edu/media/mediaguide/bios/chakrabartibio.html〕 ==Biography== Chakrabarti was born in Calcutta, India. He earned his Bachelor of Science in physics in 1979 and Master of Science in physics in 1982 from the University of Calcutta, and earned his doctorate in physics from the University of Minnesota in 1987. He was a research associate at Temple University from 1987 to 1988 and at Lehigh University from 1988 to 1989. Chakrabarti joined the physics department at Kansas State University in 1990 and was named a full professor in 2000. He served as interim head of the department of physics from 2006 to 2007. In July 2011, Chakrabarti was named the William and Joan Porter Chair in Physics.
